Hi,
an observation:
I did a little "benchmark" of the new console in the Pd main window. Sending a lot of error messages (one every 32th note in a 120 bpm track) creates a load on my machine of about 70 percent. Using the "-stderr" option and sending errors to the xterm the CPU will linger around at 15 to 20 percent. I added "-stderr" to my .pdrc now. ;)

furthermore i noticed (without looking at the code) that the text-buffer has an unlimited size, which means that i quickly will occupy huge amounts of memory. i think it would be better to have an option to set the maximum number of lines that go into the buffer (or rather: the maximum number of chars divided by 80) and forget the oldest messages. defaults e.g. to 500 and "-1" would be unlimited....
