I noticed Pd in windows can use an internal MS GM player, see:

And seems Apple also has a similar thing, called "DLS Sound Set" or something like it that other softwares use (like Live and Max) but Pd can't see it. I wonder if there's a way for Pd to see it or if there's something in the way.

Not built in but many people use qsynth or relatives
Back in the days when I still was an Apple user, there was simplesynth. https://notahat.com/simplesynth/ maybe it still works if it wasn't broken by one of the OS updates...

yeah, I actually use it, but I don't think it works on the newer ones (catalina+)
