Dear all,
I'm happy to announce the public release of the Locusonus external.
The locusonus external feature a solo object: locuscast~, a streaming client, similar in use to the oggamp~ or mp3amp~ objects.
It is based on FFMPEG (and pack it, that why it's a bit big).
It can read a wide variety of format (ogg, mp3, aac, wav, and many more), any bitrate, any samplerate, and up to 64 channels.
And files can be read too.
At the moment it's available for macOS and Raspberry Pi (arm6 and arm7), and in a close future it will be for linux and windows as well.
The external is here:
A demo patch is provided, but intended to work on L2ork, with the purestJson external.
So far, it has been tested on :
Raspbian Jessie (arm6&7) with Pd vanilla and L2ork
Raspbian Stretch with Pd vanilla.
MacOs 10.6.9 and later
You can report bug, observation or happyness about it ay this email adress:

Hi
There is in fact a locuscast streaming source client, but it's an iOs and Android app made by us as well, and we are thinking about making it a Pd external too.
Thanks for pointing that out.
I don't know if readanysf~ has been maintained recently either.

Cool! I know about [mp3cast~] and it seems still to work (at least for me), but it is not maintained anymore, from what I know.
- Beside the fact that locusamp~ is based on ffmpeg, I can't really
tel because I can't get readanysf~ to work on macOs 10.10.5 (Pd crash anytime readanysf~try to open something)
I see
It seem to be the case on windows too.
Are its dependencies already built-in or are they supposed to be installed already?
I don't know if readanysf~ has been maintained recently either.
From what I can tell, its author is responsive to requests. I tried only on Linux and the situation is a bit simpler there, because gavl and gemrlin-avdec can be installed by package manager (and readanysf~ is even in the repos of Debian based distros). I guess the hard part is to build those libraries on Windos (and maybe on macOS). I suspect it's crashing on Windows and macOS because it is linked to missing libraries, but that's just guess.
It's definitely interesting to having something cross-platform like [locusamp~].
Are there sources available already? I didn't find anything on GitHub.

I tried the Windows build from puredata.info in wine. When loading it in Pd, I get:

The archive for Windows actually ships with a few dlls, but not all of them. libtheora-0 and libtiff3 are part of the archive and I installed them as suggested in the README (don't know why it complains about them), but the others from above list are missing.
So, before anyone reports to the author, be sure to have all required dlls installed and then test again.
Note: the windows package was put together by someone else (says the READMEwin32.txt). So, please also do not complain to the author about missing dlls.
Maybe someone knows of a good / trustworthy way to get compiled binaries of GPL-ed software for Windows? Or is willing to compile them?

I tried to build readsf~ with Msys2 and I'm missing gmerlin_avdec lib (not included in dll folder). there's no package for Msys2 and I couldn't find any binaries elsewhere so I tried to build gmerlin_avdec from source but gave up after a while...
I'm wondering if there shouldn't be a better cross-platform solution, probably using ffmpeg/libav instead of gmerlin?

I got the impression it's only a net streaming client (because the author compared it to [oggamp~]). Are saying it is also a file player (like [oggread~])? Unfortunately I couldn't test yet because I only have a Windows machine right now.

Hi,
Locusamp~ was intended to be a stream player, but ffmpeg offer the possibility to play files as well, so it does.
You can play sound tracks from a video file if you wan't!
The purpose of locusamp is to provide a functionnal and maintained multiformat stream (and file) player.
It is although intended to be easy to install and to use for novices like students (we are based in an art school, and teaching was always on sight).
Source files will be available soon, and windows build are on the way.
Best,
Grégoire
