hello all,
I don't know if this is something worthy for the summer of code... or at all... but I would love PDP to work on Windows
i don't think that PDP will be on windows ever. tom is working on a new project called pf (packet forth). http://zwizwa.goto10.org/zwikizwaki.php?page=PacketForth
my wishes
for gem, make a bridge with ArtoolkitPlus - there's an gem external in the cvs for artoolkit, but it's not working for now and artoolkitplus is really better (C++). http://studierstube.icg.tu-graz.ac.at/handheld_ar/artoolkitplus.php
and maybe something more easy, fixing the mootcher external. http://freesound.iua.upf.edu/mootcher.php (nice example of using flext to build an external for pd and max)

well, this doesn't mean that pdp cannot be ported to windows. tom need not do it.s

i really like these bug-reports...if it is not working, would you please mind to tell me _what exactly_ fails?

Heck yes, I 2nd both of these. Each time I want to interface ARToolKitPlus with gem I have to write a weird abstraction layer using network sockets to communicate. Would be great to have it straight in there.
Best,
Chris.

It only bridges in the sense of sending ARToolKit's numbers across via UDP to whatever wants to receive it. So, no image data. But this is useful if you're just detecting the markers to use in Pd or something else without requiring modification of the image data. For example I used it to make a 'virtual graffiti' installation using a projector, where people could wave markers around and draw on a virtual canvas.
Here's the code: http://mccormick.cx/viewcvs/arUDP/
Enjoy!
Chris.

It's possible and would be an appropriate project, I think.

hey guys,
i am not sure it's a good idea to port pdp to windows... *tom* schouten is not working anymore on pdp. his new project is called packet forth (in collaboration with goto10). tom, please correct me if i am wrong!

Okay, so if I understand this right, there would the be an alternative:
Instead of fixing PDP, it would be good to have a [packet_forth] object for PD that is cross-platform and lets you run the Packet Forth scripts, correct?
Or is Packet Forth too far away from working???
