Thanks for all your swift feedback... I've put out 0.47-0 test 2, which fixes most of the problems I've heard about - I'm still trying to chase down a couple of things. I'll plan to put out the "stable" release next weekend if things go smoothly.

Cool, the crashes with the help patches seem to be gone!
Just two minor things:
In the help subpatch for [text delete] the original text only has 2 lines instead of 5 lines. Also, you wrote 'delete second line' while it's actually the third line ;-).
Thank you again! Looking forward to the stable release.

Hello,
... and the comment for [text] in [pd delete] come from [pd set] : "text set" replaces the nth line with the incoming list. If the number n is greater than the number of lines in the text the new line is added. ;) ++

I'm glad to see the release that includes deken is out now.
One minor thing still apparent in the test2 release: The second argument of the 'color' message to a [cnv] object does not change the text color anymore in Pd 0.47. Text color can be changed by providing a _third_ argument, though.
See attached patch.
Cheers and thanks for all the work gone into that release, Roman

It looks like the new color handling has made teh "color" message work more coherently. In the past, if "color" had two arguments they were interpreted as background, foreground, and label color, but if only two were supplied theyt were the foreground and label colors (without setting background color). I think the old behavior is horribly confusing. I'm not sure whether to consider it a bug or a 'feature' - and whether back compatibility is more important than making the color-settings sane.

First thanks Miller.. It's always nice to thaks first! :)
I tested zoom feature, and pd can't zoom the text in canvas. (screenshots in attach)

Yep, none of rhte IEM GUI labels zoom - I think the only way to get that working will be for me to redesign the label font handling.
I deal with this by avoiding using the labels on IEM GUIS - I just use comments instead.

Actually, a color message with two arguments sets background and label, leaving foreground color unchanged (in Pd <= 0.46).
I think the old behavior is horribly confusing.
Until now, I wasn't aware that all iemguis behave the same regarding colors. The new behavior would have worked for old versions of Pd, but it never occurred to me, since the documentation for [cnv] clearly suggests using only two arguments (background, label), while all other iemguis require three arguments. Thus, I used only two arguments whenever setting the label color for [cnv]s dynamically. The change of behavior breaks quite a few patches of mine. This doesn't mean I'm opposed to introducing sanity in that matter (it's quite easy to fix), but I'm wondering how many other patches with non-trivial GUI designs would be affected.
I'm not sure whether to consider it a bug or a 'feature' - and whether back compatibility is more important than making the color-settings sane.
I'm not even sure what is more sane. The new behavior forces the use of a redundant middle argument when setting the label of a [cnv].

OK.. I added a 0.46 compatibility mode to get the old, strange behavior :)

I don't see anything regarding this in the logs. Did you push? The most recent commit I see is adcdcede.
Now I feel somewhat guilty for another compatibility mode ;-) Probably more important than supporting the 'strange' behavior would be to reflect the current behavior in the documentation. See attached my_canvas-help.pd

I've just tried test2 on Fedora. I got the source from Miller's site, did ./autogen.sh, ./configure, make, make install.
Unfortunately, the zoom function doesn't seem to work at all on my system. It's greyed out until you create a new patch; when you do, the "zoom in" and "zoom out" entries are no longer greyed out, but they have no effect.
It's quite possible that I'm doing something wrong, I will investigate further; but I thought I'd report while it's fresh.

Correction: the zooming feature does seem to work. The objects are bigger and readable on a high density screen. I was under the impression that the menu items were also going to get bigger, which is not the case.

this is a stupid Apple thing meant to lock you into Apple or approved devs only. to fix this, go into your System Preferences select Security and click the lock icon. then find the section with the words 'Allow applications downloaded from' (in 10.8 its the General tab). change this to Anywhere and close the lock icon. Try opening it up again and it should work.
best, scott

I still can't reproduce this... you're indeed hitting the shift key along with control so taht it's ctrl-+ and not ctrl-=, right? Just tried on a Fedora laptop with no problem.

Neither the numeric peypad '+' nor the regular one (above the = in the US, but probably elsewhere elsewhere)?

Yep, zooming works only on patches. To change menus, dialogs, etc, set the font size on teh Pd window.

Correction: the zooming feature does seem to work. The objects are bigger and readable on a high density screen. I was under the impression that the menu items were also going to get bigger, which is not the case.

It's quite possible that I'm doing something wrong, I will investigate further; but I thought I'd report while it's fresh.

afaik, this is purely intentional: the zoom only works for the patch-canvas (not for menu).
but they have no effect.
this obviously is not.

i can confirm that it works for me. just to be sure: you do have some content on the patch window, do you? (a zoomed white canvas might be undistinguishable from it's unzoomed counterpart)
Ok, on my system, making the font really big and having zoom on at the same time make things better now. The text in the console is still really small, as is the "audio on/off" text at the top of the console. Screenshot attached.
That said, it is a massive improvement that makes PD usable on my screen. Many thanks!

see attached image with a zoomed patch (left) and an unzoomed one (right).
what is slightly annoying is, that when copying a zoomed content, it will look different than when copying the unzoomed content. (spacing varies)

Yes... I think I need to constrain motion in the zoomd case to be multiples of 2 pixels somehow. Also it would be good if the zoomed width of an object were exactly twice the unzoomed width but I don't know how to do that.

Hi Miller,
I also remembered some possible bugs in [fiddle~] and [sigmund~]. I reported them on the bug tracker some months ago, but the issues are still present in the newest test release. I almost forgot about them... I attached a patch describing the issues (mainly with thresholding and amplitude output).
Could also be I'm missing something. Anyway, if you have time you can have a look.

Thanks for all your swift feedback... I've put out 0.47-0 test 2, which fixes most of the problems I've heard about - I'm still trying to chase down a couple of things. I'll plan to put out the "stable" release next weekend if things go smoothly.

Yep, there was a serious problem with sigmuns~ threshold testing... should be fixed now.
I don't want to touch fiddle~, working or not - it's way obsolete. However I did add a note to that effect in its help file :)
thanks MIller
