I'm looking to run my electric banjo through PD. I can't get the signal to show up. I have it plugged in the line input. Do I still need to use an amp, or is it possible to amplify the signal with PD? I can't get anything.
Depending on your audio hardware, you'll most likely need to run your
banjo through an amp or pre-amp of some kind before sending it to
PD. You might be able to amplify it within PD, but it will also
amplify the noise floor and most likely end up sounding awful.
Are you using external sound hardware or the built in input on your
computer?

the line inoput will defintely not work. instead, try the mic input, or even better, use an external preamp that is suited for that. if you use the mic input, depending on your soundcard you may have stuff like an extra mic-gain switch to raise the level even more.
