it's probably easier to find a player than supports jack and route accordingly... or perhaps a wrapper for gstreamer audio sources (which has a .sid decoder at least).

I did look into the resid library once considering to write a wrapper similar to the fluid~ external, but I didn't understand the library. It's not as beautiful as libfluidsynth... :( Another alternative would be legasynth: http://www.reduz.com.ar/legasynth/
But actually it is fun to try to design chip sounds as abstractions, too.
