Hello all, Thomas,
Changed distros a while ago, hadn't actually tried to do anything in Pd until recently. Using pool gives me the output:
pool 0.2.0 - hierarchical storage object, (C)2002-2004 Thomas Grill
pool ... couldn't create
Er... any idea?
pd 0.38-4, pool from Thomas' web site, Flext from planet CCRMA, whichever version that is. I hope the answer isn't "upgrade everything".
cheers, David

Maybe your pool uses a flext which requires another Pd?
I suppose recompiling pool could help. Maybe then you also need to recompile flext. And then all other flext externals. And for newer flexts you might need a newer Pd. However this could lead to "upgrade everything" unfortunatly. :(

hi list, wouldn't it be nice if spigot could be created with 1 as an initial argument? i have so many spigots in abstractions which need to be open on loading and need so many [loadbang]---[1( for that so it would be great if [spigot 1] would just do the trick. and loadbangs... if there was a shortcut like [lb] or even a small special symbol for that it would save much space and make patches more readable.

Yes, this would be very nice. Wait a moment, I'll patch your Pd to make it work.
3 ... 2 ... 1 ... done.
I beamed it to your computer. Could you check, if it works correctly now? ;)
Regarding shortcuts: You can make [lb] as an abstraction as:
[loadbang} | [outlet]
Saved as lb.pd in your path.

it doesn't. so either your beamer doesn't work as it should or (rather likely) i should update to a more recent version of pd. which what version was that introduced?

that's the way i've resolved that problem quite a while ago. but everytime i give a patch away i have to remember including lb.pd would be nice if that was a standard feature.

Hm, strange, and I'm sorry for making fun of your question then.
I'm using [spigot 1] for such a long time, I didn't even remember that it was not taking an argument in the past. I checked the history of spigot-help.pd in CVS now, and there the first time, a spigot argument is mentioned happened Sat Nov 6 16:07:21 2004 with pd 0.38 test9
Which version are you using?

it seems, that sven just asked at the right time. [spigot] from pd0.37.3 doesn't take an argument, but the one from 0.38 does (at least on win).
cheers roman

np. i'm used to ppl making fun of my questions. as long as it's as funny as your reply i have no problem with that :-) i'm still using 0.37.3 cause there were some issues with 0.38 so i couldn't use it under windows. these issues are fixed in 0.39 test 7 so it's time to upgrade.
sven.
Frank,
Well, both Pd and Flext come from the CCRMA packages, and I compiled pool using those sources. So I have no idea...
I am actually in the process of slowly upgrading everything. Still, it seems like it should work.

Hi David, that's a strange bug. Does pd -verbose give more information? Anyway 0.2.0 is quite old and i hope to release 0.2.1 as soon as the last file/save issues are cleaned up.
all the best, Thomas

Thomas,
Nope, -verbose doesn't give anything else.
