So when does pd get rounded corners ala Max 5?

hi dan,
just compile pd with tcl/tk 8.6 (or 8.5 i think) to have anti-aliased fonts.
but more importantly then rounded corners, i would vote for a glitch-free user interface :)

I dont want anti-aliased fonts. I love bitmaps. I see no reason for blurry fonts
in pd.

i will code for a glitch-free user interface ... at least we have the ability to do so instead of whining on forums about how our $1000 investment is useless due to a change in the ui.

I want to squint at anti-aliased fonts too.

Tcl/Tk 8.5 has anti-aliasing support on all platforms. We should
definitely switch to it, it is now up to 8.5.5. Pd was using Tcl/Tk
8.4.4 for a long time, so I think 8.5.5 should be mature enough.
As for rounded corners, I am not really a fan. I think the graphic
design should be focused on making things easier to read and
understand, while avoiding flashiness. What I would really like to
add is having object arguments go grey when they are overridden by
data coming in on an inlet. This is a common source of frustration
for me, and this little visualization would make the state of the
patch much more apparent.

Pd uses whatever Tcl/TK is installed on the machine on OSX or linux, but comes with its own version on Windows. I'm trying to maintain several years' back compatibilty - right now it wirks back to 8.3 (except the help panel).

i think Dan was joking about the rounded corners. the link he posted (pointing to the Max forums) is worth a look, it's a whole bunch of Max users fighting about the new rounded corners feature in Max 5 - some people are saying it's wonderful, others are saying it's a tragedy. really funny to watch.
... but anti-aliased fonts are a serious problem - I hope they don't become obligatory. They really aren't as sharp as the bitmap ones. Another case of computer science orthodoxy trumping common sense :)

I think you can control it from Tcl/Tk, i.e. turning it on and off.
That is much preferrable to not even having the option, especially
when you consider the vast majority of computer users are used to
seeing anti-aliased fonts. I am not saying anyone should have to use
them...
Properly anti-aliased lines are much clearer IMHO.
