Hi,
I'm new to PD and trying to use boids (http://puredata.info/community/projects/software/boids) with GEM (http://puredata.info/community/projects/software/gem).
The example "boids2d-help.pd" (attached) that comes with boids is almost what I need, but it renders each boids result in a separate pd subpatch; in "pd gem_example" a route object is used to route each result of boids to a separate subpatch "pd boid" which takes care of the gem rendering.
Is there a way to send the results of boids to one subpatch that would take care of all the rendering no matter how many boids results there are ? This would allow me to fluctuate the number of boids without having to create and attach new subpatches.
Any help is highly appreciated.
Best,
hello,
yes, ity's easy. see attachment. you can have more information about technique use in this patch in Gem documentation, mainly at the end of directory 02.advanced

pix_motionblur requires a source with multiple frames - a movie file - to create a blur. To blur a still image try pix_convolve. The example file should have a blur kernel.

Thank you Chris.
I got a blur working with pix_convolve. Now I need to be able to pass the image/texture into that process multiple times.
I come from a Java and web world where we have /for/ and /while /loops, but I can't seem to find an equivalent in pd other than until, which doesn't seem to fit my needs. I would love to be able to pass a parameter that would tell the patch how many times it should process the texture with pix_convolve.
Like always, any help is very much appreciated.

hello Oussama,
until and gemlist is what you need to create a Gem loop. You can learn more in Gem example folder/02.advanced/19 to 22
for more efficient blur, see example/10.glsl/14.blur

Thank you Cyrille.
I will take a close look at the advanced examples.
As for the blur example, I can't find it in my installation. I have the latest PD-Extended (0.42.5) and the latest Gem (0.93.3) installed. I found a commit on github (https://raw.github.com/ch-nry/Gem/master/examples/10.glsl/14.blur.pd) that goes back to December 2011. Does that mean that the http://gem.iem.at/ installers are out of date ?

Thank you Cyrille.
I will take a close look at the advanced examples.
As for the blur example, I can't find it in my installation. I have the latest PD-Extended (0.42.5) and the latest Gem (0.93.3) installed. I found a commit on github (https://raw.github.com/ch-nry/Gem/master/examples/10.glsl/14.blur.pd) that goes back to December 2011. Does that mean that the http://gem.iem.at/ installers are out of date ?
Gem last release (0.93.3) was made the 11.11.11 all work made since 11.11.11 will be available on next Gem release. No release date is planed yet.
you can grab this example (pd patch, abstraction and shader) on github, it will certainly work on you Gem version.
cheers c

hello Oussama,
until and gemlist is what you need to create a Gem loop. You can learn more in Gem example folder/02.advanced/19 to 22
for more efficient blur, see example/10.glsl/14.blur

Thank you Chris.
I got a blur working with pix_convolve. Now I need to be able to pass the image/texture into that process multiple times.
I come from a Java and web world where we have /for/ and /while /loops, but I can't seem to find an equivalent in pd other than until, which doesn't seem to fit my needs. I would love to be able to pass a parameter that would tell the patch how many times it should process the texture with pix_convolve.
Like always, any help is very much appreciated.

pix_motionblur requires a source with multiple frames - a movie file - to create a blur. To blur a still image try pix_convolve. The example file should have a blur kernel.
