hi, (back on puredope again ;)
as theres so much i still need/want/hope to do with pd i desided to start make some basic "gui-modules" for some functions so i don't have to make them seperately in every patch i create/use.
i was also thinking on modules for:
btw. has some1 else made this kind of modules ?
ok, the first1 is here "audio2data". audioIN trough [envrms~], [snapshot~] and [dfreq~]... sorry but i spend more time to develop the gui as the code :)... so i got some questions regarding coding:
corresponding min/max for [env~], [envrms~], and [snapshot~] when "grabbing" direct from [adc~] ?
what is the best combination for [dfreq~] to get the value of loudest frequency and what is the output range of [dfreq~] ?
can i dynamicly change a <sliders> output-range ? tried hi,high,right,value...
could some1 refresh my mind by telling what was it with $0 or $1 in a symbol (like send/receive symbols) ? because i want to communicate with the modules.
are there other huge cpuhog objects like dynamicly changing <number> boxes ?
can i open a patch to a window WITHOUT the borders&menu ?
any1 know links to "indepth" documents about [bonk~] and [fiddle~] input commands or could some1 explain me in "common-people-way" how to use them with purpose, or maybe you could build a little bonk/fiddle tutorial :) ?
with [env~] and [envrms~] i get the same, only different "scale" right ?
i think this is enough for starters ;) so, any tips/help to improve my newbish coding IS apprichiated!!!
to run _audio2data3e.pd you need:
and the "manual" www.vju-tv.net/_audio2data3e.gif
thnx -andre [win2k, 1.2ghz, 256mb, gf2mx, sis7012]
ps. an experimental GUI: www.vju-tv.net/_audio2data2c.gif (you could but the objects name/function/help outside the interface so you can size the window in the size of the actual interface. and when you need help, just scroll.) btw. as the mouse with scroll/wheel is very common today i was wondering is there an [object] for that?
the _audio2data3e.pd patch crashes my .35test29 reliably on windows2000 with no really informative error message (just the standard "an error log is being created" message. is anyone else seeing crashes too?

to run _audio2data3e.pd you need:

hi,
attached (avi.pd) is maybe what you mean for the gemwin. It's also an 'interface' (sic) for loading and playing an avi... >> not very user friendly since i only made it for personal use.
about bonk; it's an attack detection thingie. I use it to control my visuals a lot. It is great to use when you're vj-ing: it acts like a beat detection tool. I attached another patch avi_bonk.pd in which it is used (great to vj on drum&bass. I originaly used it with an installation where the sound came from contact microphones (and some effects on that) attached to a model railroad).
hope you can figure it out...

thnx 4 the patches, the avi-bonk looks nice...
thnx, but i know what bonk is/does and i've used it. but now i wan't to make an GUI for all the commands and the PDs bonk~.pd is not helping me enough on the input commands so that i could control it "gezielt" (cant remember the english word) and with TAE i get so "fuzzy" results...

I've made a group of modules (basically the same kind of thing) with a set of synthesis unit (sine, triang, square, fourier additive, amp & freq mods) and a "sampler", both connected to an effects generator (delay, filters, mods). It is in -a kind of- german, but I think it is clear for anyone with a minimum audio experience. You can find it in pure-data.org or directly in http://home.arcor.de/jmmmp/
(If you have any features to suggest, please do. It is stopped now mainly due to lack of imagination and time)

Dear folks i would like to use my emagic 2|6 for audio input but when i run pd i get
"PortAudio input and output must use same core Audio device"
apparently it sees the emagic as default #0 Input and default #1 output
is there a work round for this? cheers~
Pat
hello,
in pc world, you would:
set PA_RECOMMENEDED_OUTPUT_DEVICE=0 SET PA_RECOMMENEDED_INPUT_DEVICE=0
i don't know if there is an equivalent in mac.
if you just want ouput, then could you go: pd -noadc blah blah blah ?

yes pd -noadc -nomidi -audiobuf 100 works dreamy the one good thing (i guess) is that Apple purchased emagic last month

this is what the readme from portaudio says about mac core sound:
" Notes on Core Audio Implementation of PortAudio
by Phil Burk and Darren Gibbs
Document last updated March 20, 2002
WHAT WORKS
Output with very low latency, <10 msec. Half duplex input or output. Full duplex on the same CoreAudio device. The paFLoat32, paInt16, paInt8, paUInt8 sample formats. Pa_GetCPULoad() Pa_StreamTime()
KNOWN BUGS OR LIMITATIONS
We do not yet support simultaneous input and output on different devices. Note that some CoreAudio devices like the Roland UH30 look like one device but are actually two different CoreAudio devices. The BuiltIn audio is typically one CoreAudio device.
Mono doesn't work.
DEVICE MAPPING
CoreAudio devices can support both input and output. But the sample rates supported may be different. So we have map one or two PortAudio device to each CoreAudio device depending on whether it supports input, output or both.
When we query devices, we first get a list of CoreAudio devices. Then we scan the list and add a PortAudio device for each CoreAudio device that supports input. Then we make a scan for output devices."
so it seems for the moment that you can only get half duplex with your 2|6 on OSX :(

I think this is inherent in the USB audio model... input and output always appear as separate devices and there's no notion of a single io cycle.

i think that would explain the problem with the rme hdsp, unless anyone knows something to the contrary. thanks!

Ok well at least i have an answer! thank you so much for tracking that for me. knowing Phil and the jsyn folxx it should not be too long. thanks Mark
