Has anyone actually programmed a compressor/gate object yet? I've built a simple abstraction. It's pretty crummy though. I'm sure that I'm not using something to my advantage (ie. there's a better way to do it) and I wonder what everyone else thinks. I've attacked the abstraction file. Thanks.

Had a previous version of pd that ran without trouble (unfortunately off my system now, and I can't remember the version number - sorry....), but with the same system (windows 98) I now have a recurring problem with v0.36: things work perfectly well for a limited period and then, for no apparent reason that I can predict or duplicate, the screen either freezes up (the mouse will move, but clicking does nothing) and stays that way, or the screen just goes completely black.
This happens nearly every time I use Pd and I can't work out why. Any suggestions?

You will have to try to figure out where the freeze happens, does it happen with a particular patch? Or is it when you use a particular object? If you can't say when it happens there is not much chance of fixing the problem?

This has been the most frustrating thing - it doesn't appear to be a problem tied into a particular patch or object... but it happens almost everytime a patch, any patch, is left running or otherwise unattended.

hi, just an idea... could the problem be caused by your screensaver? or did you install any other software that could be disturbing Pd? sme

Is this Windos SE second edition? I know the original Windows SE would freeze several times per day when running Pd.
cheers Miller
