ok, so the HID object works fine, but only on some systems.
I just tried on an ubuntu system and I can load the external, which will then report that it finds my wingman joystick. however, after I send it a "start" message, PD segfaults.
any ideas where to look?
works perfectly on another machine with gentoo. I'm thinking it's a hardware issure, though.
strangly enough, the outdated "rawjoystick" external works on the ubuntu machine...but outputs the both the vertical motion on the second axis as well as the hat-X values on the same 4th outlet.

hi list
i have the same problem here with hid. cat shows output for both input/event2 and event3, both have ms sidewinder gamepads attached which are recognized by the hid external, but as soon as i press start in the joystick abstraction pd segfaults..
any idea what it could be? i run a 2.6.11-preemt kernel with debian, Pd version 0.38.4 without -rt.
i will try it with 0-37-4 now, but i am not really sure if it has anything to do with it. any guess what i should try else?
thanks m

The segfault is most likely caused by the syn event not being handled
properly. None of my devices report syn events, so I haven't
encountered them. But so far, all of the recent crash reports have
been with devices that report syn events.
I am pretty slammed this week with other things, but next week, I plan
on diving back into [hid], fixing bugs, and adding more features.

¡El pueblo unido jamás será vencido!
At this point, I am guessing that the 2.6 kernel is reporting the syn
event types which cause the crashes. I have been working from 2.4
kernels so far, so that's probably why I haven't seen them before.
I'll try it on a 2.6 kernel soon.
