hi,
i just tried to play a vsti instrument with thomas grill's [vst~] and didn't succeed. in the help file however, it says that midinotes and other midi messages can be sent to vst~.
the instrument even changes presets with the [program( message but no sound is coming when a note is played.
anybody had any luck with that ?
ciao

Hi Oliver, which VSTi are you trying to use?
greetings, Thomas

hi, i guess you all suggested right. i obviously tried a strange instrument, that wasn't friends with vst~. (it worked on MAX/MSP's [vst~] though.)
for the record, it was an instrument called "tapeworm", a mellotrone-surrogate. another one called "amoeba" by concrete-fx worked fine with thomas' vst~.
so i guess i have to stick to those that work
thanks for all help

Hello, I tested the vst~ plugin with two synths today:
I used the vst~ help patch to test, with the MIDI message subpatch. For some reason, with both synths, the noteon messages seem to work correctly, but the noteoff doesn't turn notes off, it seems to either do nothing, or trigger a new note. Once, when I was changing noteoff values and running Claw through freeverb~ and then into the DAC~, it actually crashed PD (could be unrelated).
Any ideas why this is so? Note that Claw is monophonic, and ASynth was running in mono mode.
Thanks, David
It appears that this is somehow related to the monophonic mode of these synths - when I used the polyphonic synth chip32, the noteoff does work. I guess perhaps the VST's themselves don't use note-off in mono mode or something, which doesn't seem right to me, but I can't think of anything else.
Now I will have to build a sequencer for VST's!!!
