greetings list, When I run PD under linux using an edirol UA25 and Jack, I get some pretty nasty noises every time i switch windows. When I do the same thing in Windows (sans jack), I don't get this problem. I've tried running pd with alsa but that doesn't work. I do have a 16 bit pci soundcard installed. Would removing that help? Or how would I edit my alsa configuration to remove the PCI card and just use USB? the alsa configurator program doesn't make any mention of the USB device.
The only way I get rid of those noises is to run as root or sudo and with the -rt flag. Try it if you haven't done that yet. ALSA support for PD is not good, so I don't think removing the PCI card from your ALSA configuration will help at all. The "default" sound systems have been OSS or JACK for a long time now, so better to skip tinkering with ALSA too much for now if it's usable by JACK.

ALSA seems to crackle less than JACK on linux..maybe its something to do with the extra layer and userspace daemon, or what not. but the Realtime Kernel patch can help: http://people.redhat.com/mingo/realtime-preempt/
