Hi,
is there a way that i can make a patch automatically choose a MIDI input device in vanilla? PD keeps loosing the chosen device if pd is launched with out that device connected.
thanks

depends on your definition of "vanilla". the "mediasettings" library provides a [midisettings] object that allows you to query and set the midi devices. it's an external but works with vanilla.

i'm not sure i can follow. if the device is not connected, there is no need to "lose" it, as it is already gone. or do you mean that you have configured Pd to use your midi-device, then unplug it and start Pd (it's obviously not there), then plug it in and re-start Pd and it is not picked up?
if so, you can specify the MIDI-device to use using the "-mididev" cmdline flag (overriding the preferences)
