Hello, After searching through helpfiles and the pd-list archive I couldn't find a solution to my problem, which is this:
Say I have a float "5" and a string "cat". How would I append these two to make a new string "cat5"?
I could have missed something gravely important in the documentation or maybe I just used the wrong search terms for the pd-list archive. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Use the "makesymbol" object from the zexy externals.
#N canvas 7 512 1242 459 10; #X floatatom 89 70 5 0 0; #X obj 89 138 print; #X obj 89 92 makesymbol cat%s; #X msg 89 115 $1; #X connect 0 0 2 0; #X connect 2 0 3 0; #X connect 3 0 1 0;
