Dear List,
as a complete newbie, I am trying to take my first steps in PD. I have downloaded and installed it. Testtone.pd works fine.
Then I've decided to run my HelloWorld. I've connected a HelloWorld message to a print object, and.... what happens next? Is there such a thing as "run"? Sorry for the naive sounding question, but I just don't see it do anything, so I think I'm missing the obvious, and I haven't found help for something as basic as this.
Thank you for helping
D
click on the message, if you want something to happen. watch the pd
window. (the console that opens up with the program)
other suggestions:
right-click all objects, and watch the help patches
use the help -> browser to check out pd's subfolders. lot's of info and
goodies there
involved in the pd world

Hallo!
for the beginning I would suggest you to go through pd-path/doc/2.control.examples
you should also be able to find them in Help -> Browser... in the pd window
LG Georg
Thanks a lot. Things being printed and some sound already coming out of the speakers. I'll persevere

You got some hints where to look already, but it's amazing that nobody so far recommended to read the HTML manual. You really should start there and at least read x2.htm, then read it again after a week of trying out patches. It is easy to get lost in the details of all the amazing patches without getting the broader view otherwise. Reading the fine (HTML) manual is so important, that people made an acronym for doing so:
RTFM. ;)

Yes, you must switch on the engine first, that runs everything. It's in the menu Media->Audio ON. The output from "hello world" appears in the console window. Help can be found on the top right. If you want help on an object right click it and you will see a help option which provides examples.
The best place to start learning is
