I'm confused... my PD does not have a preferences menu?!

Do I have some broken/obsolete version?  It was the only version I could find that was Windows binary including some of the libraries.

Hello,

Using pd-38 or newer you can set startup flags in the "preferences" menu
under "startup" there is a feild for "startup" where you just specify
any flags you want. Though for MIDI I imagine all the audio settings do
is set this flags anyhow.

I've not followed the thread but hope this helps.

I know there are flags that can be set on start up, but from the binary
installation I don't have access to change the start up (I don't see any
batch file), and I need to keep this installation because it has all the
libraries with it.

If I can't solve this I'll unfortunately have to use commercial software...

well, even if that were the case, it wouldn't be that big of a deal.  pc
final scratch pro only works on linux too, right? ;)

[midiin] is the raw midi interface.

you do have notein/noteout & ctlin/ctlout on windows as well as a host
of other midi-related objects that work just fine.

Like there is no MIDIIN, it gives an error message saying that only
works on Linux?!
