no... it has nothing to do with patch complexity -- it is just the case of connecting a feedback loop to an outlet~ causing Pd to crash.
Seems like a bug in the Pd's signal borrowing scheme? It is not the right time for me to look into this, though... sorry.
Putting a [switch] into such a subpatch prevents Pd from crashing, but, basically, explicit feedbacks should always be broken by putting a delay line inside.
