Recently I created a wireless OSC/MIDI sync setup on PD for Concordia Laptop Orchestra (inspired by David Ogborn's work with the McMaster Cybernetic Orchestra), which may be of interest to others who are looking for a fairly accessible way to make beat-based music with a laptop ensemble.
The tools include a master metronome, and a step sequencer which allows creating and performing beats with sampled sounds in real time as well as converting the OSC-based metronome to the more standard MIDI sync (therefore allowing typical widely-used sequencers on the same wireless sync setup). When configured patiently, this setup proved to be extremely stable.
Here's a fairly straight-forward video tutorial on how to set such a network connection up and how to use these tools. http://youtu.be/liqOkAEEUL0
