Hi,
I've used Krut Computer Recorder to record Java 3D applications, and I think the results are not so bad. Maybe you can use it to get a video of your GEM application too.

you can also try some of the screencast programs, i was using them some of
them. You need one that can grab opengl window (on mac x-snap pro and on win
camstudio) and a POWERFULL macine :). 4 me that was the fastest way and i
god quite nice results. check on wiki for more info.

i've used a few methods with various degrees of success:
1. screen recording as Nikola mentions. on linux there's xvidcap and
others that i can't think of at the moment. running this as well as
your application can end up making the machine run pretty slow - at
least for me.
2. pix_write
to save a series of stills that you can animate.
this method works better for me than (1).
plus gives me the added bonus of deleting frames that i don't want.
e.g. when doing some video feedback stuff, i get some flicker - blank
frames.
i can easily sort all the saved files and delete these (significantly
smaller file size than "good" frames).
3. similar to what Claude does - run svideo out of one machine and then
record it onto another machine.
since the machine creating the visuals doesn't have to also record or
write images to disk, i've had the best results with this for cases
where the patch is most demanding - e.g. patches doing both audio and
video processing.
best,
p

Hi, I love pd :) but after many years from its creation, why some times it
seem a casd's castle?
http://teacher.scholastic.com/max/castle/img/cardcast.jpg
After to read in that list the tipical question "pix_video don't work". I'm
thinking about pd
do you think that gem is a mature proyect for video creation? why not? why
the evolution is slow? or simply why there are not a object for to save
pretty videos in open formats? (same asks for pdp).
Maybe the extended version is a valuable effort for to have a open platform
for creatives. Then which is the sense of desiredata? (
https://devel.goto10.org/desiredata)
summarizing: Which is the next future of PureData
thanks

Hi, list,
I've created an abstraction for performing weighted median filtering
on a signal using 5 coefficients. It's a real cpu hog. It uses
heavily the expr, expr~ and fexpr~ externals, which leads to some
redundant calculations on each sample.
The test patch enclosed shows how effective this can be for removing
impulsive noises from a signal (like the pops on a record).

or How about this question: what does the roadmap look like for Pd v 1.0?

Nice. The graph says it all, it really snuffs out those spikes.
Yeah, and it eats way too much CPU, but I enjoy the instructional
value of seeing this filter done as signal expressions.

A lot of the time, the code is there, it's just hard to package it
into something that works for everyone. There are a lot of patent
issues with the various codecs, and some of the libs can be difficult
to work with.

My main goal with the Pd-extended was to make a common platform to
distribute all of the great code for Pd. By having a standard
platform across all OS's, it means that we can all spend less time
setting up Pd and wrestling with different configurations. It is not
meant to be a branch at all. For example, it would be pretty
straightforward to make a desiredata-extended, which would have all
the same libs, but installed into desiredata instead of Pd. The
bottom line is that Pd-extended is a distro, not a branch/fork. Like
Debian is a distro of many packages, and you can use many different
kernels with that distro (Linux, FreeBSD, HURD).

AFAICT, desiredata is focusing on the editing environment rather than
new libraries or functionality to the language. They have a bunch of
interesting ideas that could make patching much more fluid and
satisfying.
