grid and playlist should definitely be rewritten, perhaps from scratch. I mean, they are both very useful GUIs, perhaps a new code from scratch with a different name? I wouldn't consider a vanilla GUI, based on data structures, the best solution for replacing this.

cheers

I am just trying to re-create the functionality of pd-extended in
Vanilla and things are gong very well

hi, patrick !

the problem with "unauthorized" (as far as i understand) is that it's relying on Tcl scripts that are likely not working with newer versions anymore. 15 years back i used to try them too, but i always thought, that most of them were missing the final touch to really be useful.

i.e.: "cooled~" or "pianoroll" sounded promising but in the end were too clumsy to use, so i didn't stick with them. (i only used "grid" and "playlist", too btw.)

and considering a rework or further development: those externals were already abandoned back then (the original author yves degoyon, as far as i remember, had some sort of disagreement with the PD-list or the licencing - don't recall exactly ...)

obviously we both have a similar agenda: recreating useful GUI objects, that work "as vanilla as possible" with the newsest PD version

as i already wrote i'm about to finish my personal GUI collection, meant to be available publicly when it's tested and documented. if you are interested, i could send you some of them just as they are right now (= unfinished) - although that might get more confusing than useful.

anyway: right now i'm working on the following stuff, that's "unauthorized" related:

GRID
also check out IEMGUI's [iem_event], and [touch] from this link: http://www.droidparty.net/

CELLBLOCK (like Max's [cellblock] with a "browser" function that should be able to replace "unauthorized"'s [playlist])

WAVEFORM (would substitute [cooled~])

=========================================================================

as others already wrote, stuff like [compressor~] or [spigot~] really don't need to get resurrected as they can get easily made with vanilla-only objects.

so, just to ask, what other objects of "unauthorized" would you consider useful, so some days of patching would serve the comunity ?

best

oliver
