On Windows, I just include Gem binaries from the Gem devs.  On GNU/Linux and Mac OS X, Gem is now built from source as part of the Pd-extended build system.

pd closes suddenly when gemwin is activated with pix_film in the gem chain.
inlet/outlet of pix_film are okay.
I've tried other basic objects (from basic examples) it seems okay.
pix_film works very good with all avi codecs with Gem.dll
from precedent extended version.
