Hi Tom, the efficiency of the method depends mostly on the relationship of the several partials. If they all are multiples of a base frequency, like in a discrete Fourier transform, or follow some other _fixed_ pattern, an implementation as an external (as existent in Max/MSP) should be much more efficient than a patch with many instances of osc~.
