Can anybody help me work out how to automatically set permissions for my
video4linux USB webcam device. If I modprobe "pwc" as root, it loads
fine, but I still have to manually set permissions for myself to access
/dev/video0 (and the actual /dev/v4l/video0 that /dev/video0 is a
symlink to) as a user. Suggestions? I didn't seem to have this problem
on my last setup...

you should try the gem-dev list

1) Create a TEXT file NOT a RTF file.
2) Type all your options in it (ex: -lib Gem)
3) Save it in your home directory as pdrc
4) open a terminal window (in the terminal window, you should already be in
your home directory, if not type ~)
5) type mv pdrc .pdrc
Done
Step 5 changes the name of the file pdrc to .pdrc
pdrc will become invisible
You can also download a os x tool to view invisible files if you do not want
to use the terminal

Check under : control panel / system / hardware tab/ device manager/ mice
and other pointing devices
It has to say something like : Synaptics ps/2 port pointing device.
If you do have a synaptics, install the proper drivers and then try my
experimental external:

ok... it doesn't say "Synaptics ps/2 port pointing device."
here's the deal:
I have a touchpad in the standard spot, and a lil blue nub in the middle of my keyboard, that's also a mouse. then I have a kensington mouse to make life easier. I have also used a small micro-mini optical mouse (micro innovations) for use in class, but it's not hooked up.
I looked in the device manager, and this is what I found:
|->Kensington HID Mouse*in*a*Box Optical Elite
|->Kensington PS/2 Mouse Driver
so that's what I've found. I'm gonna try and see if your external will work.
Thanks for your help,
Robert

Hi,
Does a DOS window appear momentarily and then close? If so, you may have
a problem with an installer being designed for english XP operation
system. You can fix the problem going to the directory where pd is
intalled and modify the pd.bat file to point to the correct place where
pd.exe is located.
Cheers,
Andres

Subject: [PD] configure error: 0.38-2 osx
I put up a post recently that might have been a bit confusing because
jack was written in the subject line (although thanks to all of you who
responded). My problem is not using pd with jack (yet). I'm having
trouble getting pd's configure script to find my installed tcl/tk
libraries.
I've got Tcl/Tk 8.4 installed in the standard
/Library/Frameworks/Tcl.framework and ./Tk.framework (Batteries
Included Installer...), yet running ./configure (ignoring jack for now)
fails with:
checking tcl.h usability... yes
checking tcl.h presence... yes
checking for tcl.h... yes
checking for main in -ltcl8.7... no
...
checking for main in -ltcl8.4... yes
checking for main in -ltk8.7... no
...
checking for main in -ltk8.4... no
...
no tk library found
configure: creating ./config.status
config.status: creating makefile
Anyone else experience this? Know a good workaround? The only thing I
can think of that might be confusing this that I have tcl/tk installed
as part of the fink collection as well, although if I remove the fink
version of tcl/tk it has no effect on my present difficulties with PD.
Thanks again... I'm an avid user of PD (have been for over a year now)
but am not a programmer at all, so I hope this isn't something *too*
obvious....

oh yeah, you have to boot your system without the external mouse.
