Hmm... well, Pd almost never gives me segmentation faults (I use a linux machine) but there are almost certainly bugs I don't know about. Segmentation faults can come from Pd or from external libraries. The only way to find out which is the culprit is to find some repeatable way of making Pd "segfault" and report it to me or to the list so we can recreate the problem.
There are two ways I know of that you can cause Pd to fail. One is to run out of memory; for instance if you have 128 Meg of memory and try to load mor than about 40meg of 16-bit samples to tables, Pd usually will crash.
Second, if you use any of the "data structure" objects such as "template" and "pointer", closing patches can easily make Pd segfault.
Other than those caveats ,I don't know what you can do to make Pd fail...

I noticed it happens occasionally even without opening or closing patches. This makes my pd setup unreliable for live situations. Does it happen to anyone else? somebody please give a clue....
Thanks.

I'm glad you've asked this - I get it all the time, both on an SGI and
on
Redhat Linux box!
I seem to get it less when I use the open patch window to close / open another patch, rather than the main pd window, but it is still frequent enough to be irritating.

Occassionaly, pd crashes when opening or closing patches (no one particularly), and the shell window reports a 'Segmentation fault'
message.
Is there something i can do about it? It happens in both my desktop and laptop (I recently managed to get things going in my lap :-) << File: ATT00002.html >>
