Basically it's not about capturing the screen contents, which isn't that hard to do, the problem is, that data transfer on graphic cards is optimized for output only, reading the framebuffer is pretty slow, which make this method unusable for "real time capturing". (AFAIK) (This is based on experiences programming such an object, and working with other tools like bcast, if xvidcap has better performance, I would immediately try to find out how they do it)
