It is strange though, because my 'sllideshow' is set to loop and when it starts again, the previous images that were already opened, open again even though the 'out of memory, can't allocate memory for an image' error comes up.

Hello,
What is the object you used to load images with Gem ?
Have you tried to reduce the resolution of your images (to fit your screen) before to load them ?
