FWIW, here are some pointers that may help. I just investigated kino package which apparently works and the same site hosts a very simple dvgrab shell app which captures dv stream into an avi file. At a first glance it appears simple enough to be adapted for Gem use, but I may be totally wrong about this too... Now, if someone could please point out what kind of packets does videoDV4L.cpp send out to Gem...
