hi,

I've guessed from messages on the list that
gem can handle video capture and video files.
I'm not too sure, is that right ??

I wanted to check this out, so I downloaded gem 0.84-6
and compiled it on my
RedHat 7 / Xfree86 4.1.0 / Mesa 3.5
system.

Then, I tried to open the gem examples
but, for any of them, and whatever
DISPLAY is set to ( localhost:0, 192.168.6.2:0, :0 ),
I always get the following error
when I try to create a gem window  :

#################################################

Pd version 0.34 TEST 7
 compiled 17:38:23 Aug 30 2001
...
GEM: Mark Danks
GEM: ver: 0.84-5
GEM: compiled: Sep  6 2001
error: GEM: Could not open display ,]
error: GEM: Error creating const context
error: GEM: A serious error occured creating const Context
error: GEM: Do not continue!

#################################################

It's not the common DISPLAY problem,
( I did the "xhost +" even though I don't have to do it,
the X server has been started as root
and I'm running PD as root ),
so I think there's some incompatibility
with latest XFree and Mesa.

If gem can handle video, this can be worth digging ...
If it doesn't, that's just a bug report.

cheers,

Yves.
