Try jack and see if it works.  It looks like portaudio did compile on your machine, but something isn't working right.

On my Ubuntu/Karmic, OSS, ALSA, and portaudio all work for me.  I build
like this:

./autogen.sh && ./configure && make
cd src && ./pd

Why do you think portaudio is not being included?
