I filed a bug on this after seeing it on someone's laptop. It seems
to only happen on that model of laptop. There is a workaround:

This version still has the repeating tick on my machine. Sound gets dropped and restored again very quickly, about 5 times a second, and very regular (like a beat), even on the simplest patch (test), for every releases above 3.82. I Tried running it as a new clean user (in case it was another program that was interfering), but that didn't
help.This is on MacOSX 10.4.7 on a PowerBook G4 1.67 with 1 GB.
Anything I can do to try to pinpoint the problem?

Pd 0.40-0 is now available:

There is also a test version (0.41test01) that seems to work on AMD64 linux machines, although there are probably many problems
to find. This version keeps floats at 32 bits and simply corrects bugs arising from the new sizes; I hope also to support running Pd using 64-bit
numbers; this will probably always run slower but will work better for some
kinds of applications (representing phone numbers, for instance).cheers Miller

If nature has made any one thing less susceptible than all others of
exclusive property, it is the action of the thinking power called an
idea, which an individual may exclusively possess as long as he keeps
it to himself; but the moment it is divulged, it forces itself into
the possession of everyone, and the receiver cannot dispossess
himself of it. - Thomas Jefferson
