if the pd~ subprocess blocks (beyond the specified latency), then the parent process blocks as well, so the behavior you describe is expected. It's simply not possible to spawn pd subprocesses in a realtime safe manner (yet).

Betreff: [PD] lag when starting sub-process
hey there, im experiencing a lag in my main patch when i start a pd~ sub process. on my i7 quad core 16gb macbook pro its about 4-5 seconds until pd is running again and on an rpi 3 its about the same. is this a known thing? and if so, is there a workaround?

best
