i remember this problem from a while ago.
i don't remember the root cause nor the solution.
in the meantime: could you check the output (on the terminal) of the
following command (when the problem occurs) and how it relates to the
missing characters.
$ pd -d 1 2>&1 | grep pdtk_text_new
fnasdr
