That's a bit like the difference between Perl, the programming language and perl, the interpreter binary. Well, let the language lawyers fight this out. Every language, artifical or spoken, has ambiguities and irregularities. Some (German) have more than others (Mathematics), and there are more ambiguities on word level ("read") than on sentence or story level ("read -resize file.wav sample"), because you have more context.
