you need to install a cvs-client for your operating system. in linux the command line based tool called 'cvs' is probably the most common one.
And how can I search through this CVS archive? Do I need a special software for this kind of jobs?
i think, the easiest would be to just checkout the whole cvs tree, jargon for 'just get everything'. then you have all files on your computer and you can search for them with whatever tool you want to.
