OSC would be an alternative. (and a very nice one)
Maybe Martin want a generic tcp client, like telnet. "netsend/netreceive" works with a specific protocol called FUDI (which basically transpose lists into space delimited strings terminated with a ";") and are unidirectional. Therefore it's not possible to "telnet" using netsend/netreceive.
