This has already been discussed a a few times I think. It happened to me as well, the workaround I found at the time was to start pd with the "unset LANG" prepended i.e. :
$ unset LANG
$ ./pd

But I still wonder: why this "bug" happens? Can I call this a "bug" or is it my system's fault? :)
