It may well be that [grid] only outputs integers (0, 1, 2, 3, ...). In this case you won't get anything between 0 and 1 if you set the boundaries of grid to 0 and 1.
The solution is to set a wide range in grid (say, 0-1000), and to divide the output by the value of the upper boundary (1000 in this case).
