Thanks, that's a nice idea. I think it doesn't work in windows (I don't get any output from key combinations), but it might work on other systems.

i think it can be done with a message. On my system 22 is the key up
code for control + v. When this code is output by [keyup], a [editmode
0( message sent to the canvas ends edit mode. See demo patch attached.
