asio w/ motu 828 on Win2k

Hi, I have problems to get my motu 828 running with asio under Win2k. It only works with 8 channels but Pd reports that there are 10 (which is right). In case I use "c:\pd\bin\pd -verbose -asio -channels 10" to start Pd CPU usage goes up to 100%.... When working with 8 channels CPU usage is around 14% even with audio turned off (on a 1.8GHz P4!). Using the normal windows drivers works as usual. I know there have been similar questions on this list before but I couldn't find any hints that helped me.... I would really appreciate if one of the 828 users out there could help! Ah, I've tried pd0.35 test 26 and 29, both do the same. thanks, Olaf

basic audio analyzing

hi, (back on puredope again ;) as theres so much i still need/want/hope to do with pd i desided to start make some basic "gui-modules" for some functions so i don't have to make them seperately in every patch i create/use. i was also thinking on modules for: - gemwin (allready started) - fiddle&bonk - audio(card) mixer/fader (you know, mute, routing & co for audio IN/OUTs) - midi ? btw. has some1 else made this kind of modules ? ok, the first1 is here "audio2data". audioIN trough [envrms~], [snapshot~] and [dfreq~]... sorry but i spend more time to develop the gui as the code :)... so i got some questions regarding coding: 1. i assume that PDs <peak meters> is the real volume that goes in/out the soundcard, it shows 0=min and 100=max. so i was wondering what are the corresponding min/max for [env~], [envrms~], and [snapshot~] when "grabbing" direct from [adc~] ? 2. what is the best combination for [dfreq~] to get the value of loudest frequency and what is the output range of [dfreq~] ? 3. can i dynamicly change a <sliders> output-range ? tried hi,high,right,value... 4. could some1 refresh my mind by telling what was it with $0 or $1 in a symbol (like send/receive symbols) ? because i want to communicate with the modules. 5. are there other huge cpuhog objects like dynamicly changing <number> boxes ? 6. can i open a patch to a window WITHOUT the borders&menu ? 7. any1 know links to "indepth" documents about [bonk~] and [fiddle~] input commands or could some1 explain me in "common-people-way" how to use them with purpose, or maybe you could build a little bonk/fiddle tutorial :) ? 8. with [env~] and [envrms~] i get the same, only different "scale" right ? i think this is enough for starters ;) so, any tips/help to improve my newbish coding IS apprichiated!!! to run _audio2data3e.pd you need: - zexy - gem (for [average]) - spigot~.pd and the "manual" www.vju-tv.net/_audio2data3e.gif thnx -andre [win2k, 1.2ghz, 256mb, gf2mx, sis7012] ps. an experimental GUI: www.vju-tv.net/_audio2data2c.gif (you could but the objects name/function/help outside the interface so you can size the window in the size of the actual interface. and when you need help, just scroll.) btw. as the mouse with scroll/wheel is very common today i was wondering is there an [object] for that?

multichannel reverb?

Hello all, Has anybody designed a multichannel reverb abstraction or external for PD (Windows version). To be honest, I'd like to build a 4-channel reverb myself but I'm having some difficulty understanding how such a thing is accomplished. Can anybody lend some help? the multiverb~ (ala freeverb~ external) crashes my Windows XP. Regards, Dave Sabine

hello, i am new to the list and PD, very green, and in need of a little help, please, i have been trying to get pd up and running on my system running xp and 98se but without much success. i do get audio signals through my RME HDSP out so far but this is only with the testing audio patch, any other patch or .pd file i tried to load generates a lot of errors. MMSYSTEM02, device out of range. this is under 98. under XP: MidiInOpen: a device ID has been used that is out of range for your system. and i get just a lot of errors when i try to load just about any .pd. Nothing will work, connection failed; all kinds of error's --> the program can't seem to connect or comunicate with audiocard or pd, no commands can be exectuted. could this be a networking setup related thing? the pc has normal internet setup for cable. this only just came to mind, actually. do i need drivers or special tcp/ip networking setup config to get things running smooth? i have basically no idea now how to get the command promt actually executing some flags, this is command line talk, i understand , but following the manual doens't help much. pd seems really quite powerful, however, also a little intimidating to me. i would really like to have any hints or pointers that get me up and running. sorry for the long newbie type of post, if you think i better keep my hands of PD, just tell me. but still, any help appreciated. celeron 900/256 RME HDSP multiface best, daobra

hi there, as i do on occasion, i have just been searching the net for occurances of my email address, in order to remove them and prevent me from being added to spam lists. of course, about the third result from my search was the pd mailing list archive at iem. could we do something to obscure email addresses from being displayed in the web version of the archive? most such archives don't show mailing addresses at all until the user logs in somehow. pix.

I just loaded the pix_film example from Guenter's CVS version. Upon loading the alea.mpg file from the distro pix_film reports -1 frames, and scrubbing the frames simply advances the frame by one each time the number changes (in either direction) The mov works fine. Ben B. Bogart ---------

Hello all, Could somebody please point me to a FULL and COMPLETE explanation of the [expr] object. The only expression that I've been successful using is: [expr 1-$f1] (or something similar). However, I know that MAX/MSP's [expr] object supports If > Then statements etc... Before the [expr] object become useful to anybody, there needs to be a full explanation of its usage, syntax, and methods. Many thanks, Dave Sabine

What codecs should pix film be able to play?

I'm trying to use pix film but can only play the .mov file that came with the Gem examples. If I download an mov file from the web they never seem to work. How can I increase the number of codecs I can use? I'm using quicktime4linux.Thanks. Jim

variable delay that can go to 0?

Has anyone written a variable delay object that can go to zero? I know feedback wouldn't be possible, but I've found a couple of situations where such an object would be useful. Isn't there a minimum delay time of one block with delwrite~ and vd~? Ben
