Hi all. I'm new to the list, and to open source development.
What's the quickest way to get up to speed? I couldn't find anything describes your project structure or build process. It's been a while since I've seen a command line. I don't know CVS or what compiler or make utility you're using. It's making me feel kinda dumb. I work on a windows box, BTW.
I do know C and some Tk, and I've been doing audio programming for video games for the last 15 years or so. And that's what brings me here today.
Best regards,
Paul

From Windows users I often hear that they're using TortoiseCVS.
For the build system you will need SCons (and therefore Python).

What would you like to improve in PureData ?

welcome... there are as many make utilities as there are users. for the core: theres pd/src/makefile.nt for VC6, VS.NET project maintained by the devel users, SCons which can build via MSVC or MinGW (or Borland, or...) for the externals: in the attic of /externals/build/windows theres a VC6 makefile to build the C externs but it failed on about half of them for MSVCisms and such, so theres a GCC-oriented makefile there now..in externals/build theres a SConscript that tends to barely work on windows (i got it compiling a few and lost interest) and in /packages/windows there may or may not be a makefile attempting to do similar things..based on the one in p/ackages/darwin/
i think that covers most of the choices, for windows. on linux theres the "one true choice"...

Hi caca,
We should reserve some time for an AMD64 debugging session with you. This is especially important, as in AMD64 mode the K8 computers become generally faster.
(With the few P4/PM/etc computers that have 64-bit support, the 64-bit mode makes them generally slower so there's little point in implementing that on those computers.)
Unfortunately, all that I've got at home is a PM (Centrino) and a 6809.
When would be the best time for you?
We would only deal with Linux, because that should solve the problem for 64-bit OSX at the same time. Unfortunately, Win64 will need some further fixes because its "long" type is not 64-bit (!!!).

the latter is trivial (under MSVC) as there's __int64, guaranteed to be 64-bit. On the other hand there's size_t for all platforms, and to my knowledge this _should_ on all platforms have the length of pointers.
best greetings, Thomas

i just noticed that there is an AMD64 in the sourceforge compile farm. this could help all the developers that do not have physical access to a 64bit machine (namely miller)
