hi all.
i just wanted to inform you, that i:
- now do configure-checks for "libmpeg3" rather than "mpeg3", in order to fix the problem with fedora
- have removed the checks for ffmpeg in the configure-file, as Gem does not build with the newest ffmpeg code.
- have added support for gavl/gmerlin [1] as a decoding lib (which uses a number of backends including FFMPEG!) during piksel. it would be very nice if people could test how this performs and whether it does what it is expected to do. in order to enable it, you have to install gavl/gmerlin_avdec. on debian the relevant packages are libgavl-dev & libgmerlin-avdec-dev. the packages in debian/ubuntu are a bit out of date but should work.
all of the above should only affect the linux side of things.

rather sooner than later i want to remove the ffmpeg support in Gem entirely. other libs (like gmerlin) should follow ffmpeg's API changes....
on a related note: libv4l finally made it into Debian. using this should make linux videograbber support in Gem finally reach our millenium.
