i don't think this is a problem that can be solved on the Gem side. most likely it's a conflict between libvlc and libmagick++ that has to be resolved on their side.
(in any case i'm leaving this open until someone can confirm the source of the problem)

Hello
Loading together plug-ins gem_imageMAGICK.so AND gem_videoVLC.so crash Pd. No problem if i load gem_imageMAGICK.so OR gem_videoVLC.so.
My configuration : Ubuntu 13.04 64 bits Linux jack-GE60-0NC-0ND 3.8.0-27-generic #40-Ubuntu SMP Tue Jul 9 00:17:05 UTC 2013 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux GEM: ver: 0.93.git 374f713 GEM: compiled: Aug 5 2013 Pd 0.44.3 libmagick++-dev : 8:6.7.7.10-5ubuntu2 libvlc-dev : 2.0.8-0ubuntu0.13.04.1
