Hello,
I have a problem when i try to open a movie with pix_film using gmerlin plug-in, pd crash. Using VLC plug-in is OK with the same movie.
My config : - - Ubuntu 14.10 - - Pd 0.46.5 - - Gem ver: 0.93.git 374f713 - - gavl 1.4.0 - - gmerlin 1.2.0 - - gmerlin_avdecoder 1.2.0
I just install gavl 1.4.0, but same crash after : $ cd Gem $ ./config.status --recheck $ make -C plugins/filmGMERLIN
Here the backtrace with gdb (it seems to be a problem with libgmerlin) : (gdb) run Starting program: /usr/local/bin/pd [Thread debugging using libthread_db enabled] Using host libthread_db library "/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libthread_db.so.1". open: /etc/pd/gem.conf: No such file or directory open: /home/jack/.config/pure-data/gem.conf: No such file or directory open: ./gem.conf: No such file or directory load plugins 'film' in '/home/jack/Gem_stable/' pattern : /home/jack/Gem_stable/gem_film*.so dylib loading file '/home/jack/Gem_stable/gem_filmGMERLIN.so'! dylib loading file '/home/jack/Gem_stable/gem_filmMPEG3.so'! dylib loading file '/home/jack/Gem_stable/gem_filmQT4L.so'! load plugins 'image' in '/home/jack/Gem_stable/' pattern : /home/jack/Gem_stable/gem_image*.so dylib loading file '/home/jack/Gem_stable/gem_imageJPEG.so'! dylib loading file '/home/jack/Gem_stable/gem_imageSGI.so'! dylib loading file '/home/jack/Gem_stable/gem_imageTIFF.so'! not reloading 'image' plugins (already 3 loaded) load plugins 'image' in '/home/jack/Gem_stable/' pattern : /home/jack/Gem_stable/gem_image*.so dylib loading file '/home/jack/Gem_stable/gem_imageJPEG.so'! dylib loading file '/home/jack/Gem_stable/gem_imageSGI.so'! dylib loading file '/home/jack/Gem_stable/gem_imageTIFF.so'! load plugins 'model' in '/home/jack/Gem_stable/' pattern : /home/jack/Gem_stable/gem_model*.so dylib loading file '/home/jack/Gem_stable/gem_modelOBJ.so'! load plugins 'record' in '/home/jack/Gem_stable/' pattern : /home/jack/Gem_stable/gem_record*.so dylib loading file '/home/jack/Gem_stable/gem_recordQT4L.so'! dylib loading file '/home/jack/Gem_stable/gem_recordV4L.so'! dylib loading file '/home/jack/Gem_stable/gem_recordV4L2.so'! load plugins 'video' in '/home/jack/Gem_stable/' pattern : /home/jack/Gem_stable/gem_video*.so dylib loading file '/home/jack/Gem_stable/gem_videoDC1394.so'! dylib loading file '/home/jack/Gem_stable/gem_videoV4L.so'! dylib loading file '/home/jack/Gem_stable/gem_videoV4L2.so'! dylib loading file '/home/jack/Gem_stable/gem_videoVLC.so'! not reloading 'film' plugins (already 3 loaded) not reloading 'image' plugins (already 3 loaded) Pixelformat not specified for video frame [New Thread 0x7fffdadc2700 (LWP 10793)]

two things come to my mind:
- don't use libgmerlin if it crashes (e.g. use libquicktime instead). easiest way to not use the plugin is to remove it.
- fix gmerlin; afaik, the (yet unreleased) gmerlin (from svn) has a number of crasher bugs fixed.

I tried with libquicktime but it doesn't work in my case : [codecs] Warning: Could not find video Decoder for fourcc apch [codecs] Warning: quicktime_decode_video_stub called [codecs] Warning: quicktime_delete_stub called error: [pix_film]: unable to open file: /home/jack/Documents/ProjetsExternes/Mié/rhythm/FILM2FEVRIERsasson.mov

I don't try it yet.
Changing the video codec : prores -> mjpeg solved my problem with gmerlin. Thanx anyway, i will try gmerlin from svn. ++
