I tried the autobuild of Jan 26, then I tried the Pd-extended-0.40-3 release and the results are exactly the same: segfault on rendering a window with pix_movie. This is 10.4.11 running on an Intel MacBook.

pix_film appears to work fine...so...crisis averted. :-)

I cannot reproduce this.  pix_movie is probably the most tested object on OSX.  Perhaps the build is messed up somehow.

pix_movie is crashing as soon as a Gem window is rendered. The pix_movie help patch crashes too. Even this very simple attached patch will segfault Pd when |create, 1( is clicked on.

I tried various tricks I could think of (opening the movie file before rendering etc.) but couldn't get anything to prevent the segfault.

Pd extended 0.41.4 autobuild 20090117 (intel)
