yesterday we were using the gem.pd_darwin on cgc's site, on a 12" powerbook. Upon putting an alpha object in the chain the object became immidiatly transparent. Even when the colorRGB alpha was set to 1 the object was still transparent. Reducing the colorRGB alpha value does make the object more transparent. Removing the alpha object makes the object opaque again.
I haven't seen this behavior before. is it possible to make a patch similar to what you were doing? none of the code in those objects are specific to OSX, so if they work on other platforms then it's a bug in either the OSX GL implementation or the drivers.
Also we had some strange issues with pix_movie and pix_film. One would load photo jpg QTs the other would not, one would load DV QT and the other would not. I'm sorry I did not get a chance to log the exact codec and object issues, I was planning on making a more detailed report on the mac but I've had trouble getting access. Also we were using pix_texture2 across the line.
this is completely baffling. the OSX code in GEM does not have a single line specific to any codec, so any problems related to loading codecs would be somewhere in Quicktime. pix_film will definitely load both, and pix_movie is basically just a front end for the same code. also, those are the two codecs i use almost exclusively and have never encountered a problem in hundreds of hours of use.
sorry about this bug report being vague. I'll get you more details as soon as I can.
can you get the details of the powerbook you were using? also, if you have the version of OSX, the video driver, and QT version that would help too. it's more than likely that the first problem is related to the drivers for the video card (i've had similar problems on my powerbook in the past), and the latter would definitely be a QT problem.
