Gem does not render non-English letters

Hi All, I would like to use [text3d] with other letters than the English alphabet. Whatever I add with [font $1( message, the special letters appear in the rendered Gem window is something like this: Å⌉ A is like German A umlaupt. Anyway, it does not matter what is the input font the output is always the same if you use non English characters. Does anyone have an idea how to fix it? I am on Ubuntu Lucid with Gem 0.92.3. gmerlin-avdecoder 1.4 and ffmpeg 1.0 on macosx106-x86_64

On the PdLab Mac OS X 10.6 64-bit build machine, I just upgraded the Fink packaging for gmerlin-avdecoder1 (1.4), libgavl (1.4), and libquicktime1 (1.2.4) to be built against ffmpeg 1.0, which also includes libvpx (WebM) and libschroedinger (dirac). I'll do the 10.5 32-bit machine soon. .hc
